thousand dollars, or so lach thereof as may be necessary of the moneys
remaining in his hands out of the seventy thousand dollars appropriated
for said District by the Tlth item of the general appropriation bill,
approved March nineteenth, one thousand eight hundred and lifty-seven,
to the levying and draining of lands on the Red River, Atchafalaya, and
other places in the parish of Avoyclles, said works to be conducted under
the charge of the Svanip Land Commissioner of said District ; Provided,
Proviso. That the provisions of this section do not interfere with works already
ordered by the Conmnissioner of said District.
$20,000 appr- SEc. 2. Be it further cuacted, &c., That tihe sun of twenty thousand
