1856, out of levee and drainage fund, twenty-three
hundred and thirty-four dollars and forty-nine cents $2,334 49

77. To reclaim and drain swamp and overflowed lan la

78. For a survey, plan and estimate of expenses to as-
certain the cost of draining the back land-4 border-
in- on Lake Pontchartrain, between the upper line
of the town of Carrollton and the lower line of the
parish of Orleans, to be expended under the direc-
tion and paid on the warrant of three conunis-
sioners, to be appointed by the Governor; to be
paid out of the swamp land fund to the credit of
the First Swamp Land District, live thousand dol-
lars.................................... 5,000 00
79. Appropriation to reclaim and drain swamp and over-
flowed lands in the First Swamp Land District,
under existing laws, thirty thousand dollars..... 30,000 00

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate anl Housc of Refprcseftta-
Arrestorarun- tivcs of the State of Louisiana in General Assembly convened, That
away ulave.  any person taking up a runaway slave shall inuediately convey him
to the owner, or to the nearest Justice of the Peace, who shall either
commit the slave to the parish prison, or send him to the owner, em-
ployer or overseer, if known, who shall pay the person taking him
up the rates hereafter specified, to wit: For taking up a slave in the
