No. 46.]                    AN ACT
To amend the-third section of an Act entitled An Act to incorporate the Pioneer Fire
Company No. One, of the city of Jefferson, approved March thirty-first, eighteen
hundred aind fifty-three.
SECTION 1. Bc it enacted by the Senate and House of Represen-
tatives of the State of Louisiana in General Assembly convened,
Act    O(ensak That so nuch of the third section of the said Act which reads as
follows,  Provided alvays, and it is hereby made the duty of the
City Council of said city to furnish the necessary moneys to the said
company, for the purpose of said fire apparatus, and defraying of all
contingent expenses for the repairing and keeping in order of such
apparatus, be and the same is hereby repealed.

SECTION 1. Bc it enacted by the Senate and House of Bepresentatires of
the State of .Louisiana in General Assembly convened, That the Asses-

of assesSment. town, giving notice thereof by posting on the court-house door, to
all persons interested, to urge any opposition they may have against
the said tableau, for and during the space of twenty days, from the
date of such notice; after which time the said tableau shall have
the same force and effect in the hands of the Collector of said cor-
poration, that the tableau of the State has in the hands of the Col-
lector of State taxes.
Tax en persons  SEc. 2. Be it further enacted, &c., That the Mayor and Aldermen
and slaves Ito- of said town shall have the power to impose a tax on every person,
prove streets.  including slaves, within the ages of sixteen and forty-five years, not
exceeding ten dollars each, which tax shall constitute a fund for the
improvement of the streets of said town.
