handle is hein.slavery/ssactsla0369 and id is 1 raw text is: . 186 as Reports of the Supreme Court of this State, Digest of the Statute Laws made in eighteen hundred and fifty, Moreau and Carleton's trans- lation of the Partidas,pamphlet copies of the statutes, etc., to be given in exchange for similar books or works sent to this State, and to re- ciprocate exchanges in all cases with every State in the Union; and, provided, that five copies of Bertin's Index to the Successions opened in New Orleans, &c., be sent to each clerk's office of the district court in the State for each parish, and there deposited for the use of the parish; Provided, that they be applied for and taken away by the several clerks in the State, without further charge on the State. Sec. 5. Be itfurther enacted, &c., That all the books of the State, those for distribution among the courts and parishes, and the public Duty or the so- officers, as well as those remaining permanently in the State library, crtaryofstate. be placed under the control of the secretary of State, who shall direct and see that this duty be performed by the State librarian; and the State treasurer is hereby relieved from the performance of any of these duties in future; any law or laws to the contrary are hereby repealed. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Conditions o State of Louisiana, in General Assembly convened, That permission Wh Apin is herchy granted to the said William H. Williams, or his legal re- tc) .11. av presentatives, to make application to the several authorities now in possession of the slave or slaves seized by and forfeited to the State, under and by virtue of the act of (1817) eighteen hundred and seven- teen, and that the several authorities as aforesaid be and they are hereby authorized and required to deliver the said slave or slaves, or as many of said slaves as are now living, and their increase, forth- with to the said Williams or his legal representatives, upon his exe. cuting his bond to the Governor, conditioned for the immediate remo. val of' said slaves out of the jurisdiction of the State of Louisiana; Provided, that no further demands be made on the State, and provi- ded further, that this act be considered an act of clemency.
