No. 172.                  AN ACT
To exempt the town of Jackson in the pay ish of East Feliciano, from the payment of
parish taxes.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives
n~xemptionof the State of Louisiana, in General Assembly convened, That
of pari',m   tho town of Jackson in the parish of East Feliciana be and the same
is hereby exempt, from the payment of parish taxes.
Sec. 2. Be it further enacted, cc., That the mayor and trustees

the streets, buildings, bridges, and erecting a jail and for all purposes
which they may doom necessary for the improvement and security of
said town.
Sec. 3. Be it further enacted, 4.c., That all laws and parts of

repecaled].

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the

rant of the Auditor of Public Accounts to the order of the parish
treasurer of Concordia, the sum of seven hundred and twenty two
dollars, for the expense and maintenance of eight negro slaves, in the
parish jail of said parish. Said negroes were condemned to sufler
death for murder, but were reprieved by the Governor, and wire do-
tained under said authority, at the expense of said parish, from the
ninth of April, eighteen hundred and forty-nine, to sixteenth of Feb-
ruary eighteen hundred and fifty, when the sentence was commuted
for imprisonment for life in the Penitentiary of the State.
