No. il.-AN ACT. to create anew Pariphin ibe Parish orOuashitsto be called the Parish
of 5torebouse..
SECTION 1.' Be it enacted by' the Senate and House qf Representatives of
the State of Louisiana, in General Aisenibly convened, That all that portion
of the Parish of Ouachita, bouided- as follows, to wit: Beginning on the
east bank of the Ouachita River, at the point where it is intersected by
the line between the States of Louisiana and Arkansas, thence down the

bayou to the Mouth of Bayou Boauf, thence up said Bayou Bceuf to the
Bayou Lafourche, thence up said Bayou Lafourche to the Buffs River,
thence up said river to the line between Louisiana and Arkansas, thence
along said line to the place of beginning,. shall form a separate Parish, to
be called the Parish of Morehouse.;,
SEC. 2. Be it further enacted, 4r. That it shall be the duty of the
Governor, immediately after the passage of this act, to nominate, by and

of oours.  a Parish Judge, a Sheriff, and all other officers that may be necessary
therefor, whose powers and duties shall be the same as those of like
officers throughout the State..
SEC. 3. Be itfurther enacted, 4r. That it shall be the duty of the
Parish Judge of said Parish of Morehouse, immediately after he receives
his commission, to convene the several Justices of the Peace in said
Parish, together with the following private 'individuals, to wit : John
Police Jar Boyd, Aaron Livingstoli, James Devenport, John Lovett, William K.
Ward. .    Lasiter, Thos. M. Jones, 'Wm. A. Doles, Andrew Cain, JohnTemple,
and Luke Powell, to meet at a convenient time and place, a majority
of whom shall form a quorum, for the purpose of laying off not less than
five, nor more than twelve Police Jury Wards, in said Parish, and also
to select a Parisl.Seat of Justice for said - Parish : Provided, however,
that when said districts are once established. and the Police Jury
organized, they shall have power to change the same, or to establish
new ones, as may be deemed expedient.
SEC. 4. Be it further enacted, 4c. That the Parish Judge of the
Parish of Morehouse, as soon as the Police Jury Wards shall have been
formed, as required by the foregoing 'section of this act, and after giving
lio O ur   regular notice of time and place, shall cause an election to be held by a
Justice of the Peace, or by himself, in each Police Jury Ward, for an
election of a member of the Police Jury.
Sr.c. 5. Be it further enacted, 4-. That it shall be the duty of the
Parish Judge to convene the members af the Police Jury immediately
uo rsh after their election, at the Seat. of Justice, or other convenient place, for
the pnrpose of causing to be erected the necessary public'buildings for
the Parish, and for such other purposes as the interest of the Parish
may require.
