PASSED AT THE SECOND SESSION
AT THE
SIXTEENTH LEGISLATURE
OF THE
STATE OF LOUISIANA.
No. 1.-RESOLUTION.
WHaEAs, by virtue of unconfirmed French and Spanish grants of
land, claimed by private individuals, a large portion of our State is pre-
vented from being settled :
Be it unanimously resolved by the Senate and House of Representa-
tives of the State of Louisiana, in General Assembly convened, That
our Senators and Representatives in Congress, are hereby requested to
use their ekertions to procure the speedy settle'ment of all private land
claims in this State, in the mode and manner that they may deem most
proper.
Be it further resolved, 4c. That his Excellency the Governor of this
State, be recuested to forward on to our Senators and Representatives in
Congress, copies of this resolution.

No. 2.-RESOLUTION.
Resolved by the Senate'and Rouse of Representatives of the State of
Louisiana, in General Assembly convened, That our Senators and mem-
bers of the House of Representatives in Congress, be requested to use
their best endeavors to obtain from tbe Government of Texas, indemnity
for slaves forcibly carried away from this and the adjoining States, and
that they further endeavor to procure the passage of such laws as will
effectually prevent our citizens from being despoiled of that species of
property.
