Be it enacted by the Senate and Hose of Representatives of the State of Louisiana, in General assenbly convened, That from and after the passage of this act, the police jury of the parish of Orleans shall appoint a collector of taxes for said parish; that said Colector or collector shall hereafter be elected on the first Monday axes. of February in every year, and shall enjoy as such all the powers now vested by law in the several sheriffs of the state as tax collectors. See:. 2. Be it further enacted, &c., That the different sherifls of the courts sitting in the parish of Orleans be scourity re ompowered to require security for their fees of oflice, of 0iiice. which fbes shall be demandable from the plaintiff sixty days after th'e opening of all suit on their detailed certi- ficate, approved by the judge or clerk of their respective courts; the same clause shall be applied to the recovery of taxes on juldgments, and on the refusal or neglect of the plaintiff to pay in either case, the matter shall immediately be decided by a court of competent juris- diction. Sihc. 3. Be it further cnacted, &c., That hereafter rule notices all the public notices and advertisements, ordered by nonvruisc.law and relative to the parish of Orlns, shall be pub- lished in two of the gazettes published in the city of New Orleans, to wit: three times in English and French in the state paper, and three times in English and French in another paper, and this dting the time required by law for such publication. SEC. 4. Be it further enacted, <j-c., That any slave, Trial ofslaves. accused of capital crime in the parish of'Orleans, shall be tried before the Criminal Court of said parish, who then shall observe the same forms of proceeding as those already prescribed by law to the Parish Court in cases of a simil ar nature. SEc. 5. And be it firther enacted, &c., That all laws Repealing or parts of laws contrary to the dispositions of this act be, and the same are hereby repealed. (Signed) WM. C. C.
