Be it further enacted, &c., That the State treasurer shall pay, out of any money not otherwise dis- posed of, on the warrant of the commissioners of the $500 to the public schools of the parish of Iberville, certified by the parish of Iber. parish judge of the said parish, the sum of five hundred ville. dollars for the use of public schools: provided however, Proviso, that the police jury of Iberville shall impose a tax of the like sum; and in default of the said tax being imposed, this section shall be repealed. Approved, March 19, 1839. No. 48.-AN ACT to legalize certain acts passed in the parish of Natchitoches. SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Louisiana, in general assembly eonvcncd, That the want of the proper qualifi- cations to hold the commission of a justice of the peace, by Frangois Marie Normant, shall not be a cause suffi- cient to annul or render void any of the acts done or passed by said Normant while acting as justice of the peace. WHEREAs, the draining of the low and marshy grounds behind the 1st. Municipality of the city of New- Orleans, by the draining company, has proved complete- ly successful; whereas similar experiments made by pri- vate citizens on their plantations on the Mississippi have been attended with the same beneficial results, whereby the practicability and utility of the system of draining lately adopted in this State, has been fully and satisfac- torily tested; but whereas difficulties are found to exist in the execution of several provisions of the act incorpo- rating the said draining company; and it is desirable to simplify, expedite and extend the operations of said company; therefore,
