requested to use their best exertions to effect the passage of an
act extending the preemption law to actual settlers, or cultiva-
tors of the public land in this State, up to the year one thousand
eight hundred and thirty-seven, provided such law shall not be
so construed as to authorize floats.
Be it furthe resolved, Sc. That our Senators and Represen-
tatives in Congress be requested to use their exertions toobtain
the passage of a law reviving the law granting back concessions.
And be itfurther resolved, &c. That his excellency, the Gov-
ernor of this State, he requested to forward copies of the fore-
going resolutions to each of our Senators and Representatives in
Congress, without delay.

AN ACT
Relative to the indigent Deaf and Dumb, of the State of Louisiana.
Preamote.   Whereas, there are believed to be many persons in this State,
N ho are deaf and dumb, and who beingr in indigent circum-
stances, are proper objects of the beneficent attention of the
Legislature, and whereas, institutions long established, and
where numbers of indiv iduals similarly afflicted, can associ-
ate with each other, are represented to be best adapted to their
instruction.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the ' Cnat an( H ouse of Rep-
resentatives of the State of Louiisiana,in General Assemly con-
vened, That immediately after the passage of this act, it shall be

e jury of each certain the number of deaf and dumb persons in their respective
rish.       Parishes, and to enquire particularly into their pecuniary cir-
cumstances; and if they shall be found to be indigent, and proper
objects for charitable aid, then said Jury, through their Presi-
dent, shall report the same to the Governor of this State, under
proper certificate, setting forth the name, age, sex, parentage
and condition of such persons.
SEcT. 2. Be it further enacted, c. That immediately after

Asylum for the education of deaf and dumb, situated in any of
the slave holding States, and to enter into such contracts with
them as he shall deem most judicious, for the education and in-
structin of the indigent deaf and dumb of this State.
SECT. 3. Be it further enacted, c. ''hat whenever the Gov-
