WHEREAs it is necessary for the better administration of jus- Proamble. tice, in the parish of Jefferson,'and for the convenience of the inhabitants thereof and of that portion of said parish known as the city of Lafayette, that the jurisdiction of the parish court of said parish should be enlarged, and also that a court should be established within the limits hereinafter designated in lieu of the several justioces of the peace who officiate within the same: SECTION 1. Be it therefore enacted, by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Louisiana, in General Assembly convened, That the parish court of the parish of Jef- Juriadiction ferson shall hereafter have and exercise jurisdiction within said othr pariah parish in all civil cases, where the value in dispute does not ex- ceed one thousand dollars; and the .docision of said court shall be in the last resort, when the value in dispute does not exceed one hundred dollars, and subject to an appeal to the court of the first judicial district when it exceeds that sum; and moreover Trial by jury. that all suitors in the said parish court shall have the right to a trial by jury in all cases where the sum exceeds one hundred Proviso. dollars; Provided that the same is demanded, either by the plaintiff or defendant, in the filing of the petition or answer in any suit. SECT. 2. Be it further enacted, dyc.
