Governor to SECT. 8. Be it further enacted, 4-c. That this act shalf

of this act.  be in force, from and after its publication in the state ga-
zette, and it shall be the duty of the Governor, to cause such
number of copies of the same to be printed, as he may
deem necessary, and to send as soon as possible, at least
three copies to each parish judge and clerk of the several
district courts of the State, to be delivered to the assessors
of their respective parishes.
Census tobe  SECT. 9. And be it further enactcd, 4-c. That in one
taken in future. thousand eight hundred and thirty-six, and every fourth year
afterwards only, the police jury of the several parishes of
this state shall appoint assessors to assess the taxable pro.
perty in the several parishes of this state on the first Monday
of December; which said assessors are heroby required to
begin taking, on the first Monday of January next ensuing,
a census of the voters in their respective parishes, to end it
and make their return agreeably to this act, on or before
the fifteenth of March next ensuing.

SECT. 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of
Representatives of the State of Louisiana, in General Assen-
Jail of St. bly convened, That the jail of the parish of St. LandrN,
Landryadepot shall be a depot for such runaways as now are, or may
hereafter be confined in the jails of the parishes composin
the fifth judicial district,and said depot shall, in every respect.
be conducted and managed in the manner directed by thc
laws now in force, relqting to runaway slaves
