Whereas the several acts which have been passed for the
purpose of preventing the importation into this state of any
slaves or other persons, the introiduction of whom might be
dangerous, have been deficient in execution to prevent the
dangers, the destruction of which was intended by said
acts-Therefore,
Section 1. Be it enacted bi/ the Senate and House of Re.

out of this sate this state, who shall have been convicted of the crimes of

where; and if any such should be, they shall on conviction
sale of suIe& thereof be seized and sold, for cash, to the highest bidder,

of the purchase money to be applied to the use of the state
and the other half to the informer; and every person who
e g  not shall import or bring into this state such slave, knowing
that they have been convicted of any of the above mentioned
crimes, shall upon conviction be ore any court of compe-
-tent jurisdiction be fined for each and every such slave in
the sum of five hundred dollars, one half to be applied to
the use of the state, and the other half to the use of the iu-
