1866.                         CHAPTER 694.
AN ACT for the benefit of the devisees of Edward Jacob.
WHEREAS, Edward Jacob, a free man of color, made and
published his last will and testament, which has been proved
and recorded in the Jefferson county court, by which he de-
vises his estate to his children and grand-children, all of 'whom
were slaves at the time said will was recorded, and some of
whom have since died, leaving children; and whereas, doubts
have arisen as to the power of said devisees to take under
said will; for remedy whereof,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth
of Kentucky:
§ 1. That it shall and may be lawful for the administrator,
with the will annexed, of said Jacob, after the payment of the
debts and other legal charges against said estate, to pay over
to each of the said devisees the portion severally devised to
them by said will, and take their receipts therefor, which shall
be an acquittance in full to said administrator.
§ 2. The administrator may pay to the adult child or
children of any of the deceased devisees of said Jacob, and to
the guardian of infant child or children of such deceased dev-
isee, the portion of said Jacob's estate as they would have
been entitled to had they not been slaves at the death of the
testator.
§ 3. This act shall take effect from its passage.

CHAPTER 695.
AN ACT to incorporate the Pamphlet and Magazine Society of Louisville.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth
of Kentucky:
§ 1. That John S. Hill, Miles Hill, W. A. Robards, S. P.
Jones, R. L. Woodruff, Henry Bigfort, and their associates
and successors, be, and they are hereby, made a body-politic
and corporate, by the name and style of the Pamphlet and
Magazine Society of Louisville, Kentucky; and shall, by that
name, have perpetual succession; may contract and be con-
tracted with, sue and be sued, and acquire and possess prop-
erty, real and personal, not exceeding in value twenty-five
thousand dollars, and dispose thereof; and shall have and use
a common seal; and the power to pass by-laws not repugnant
to the laws of this Commonwealth or of the United States.
§ 2. The purposes of the society are the establishment of a
library and reading room for its members, a hall for literary
discussions, and an enlightened social intercourse among its
members.
§ 3. The members herein named, and those which may be
hereafter admitted in accordance with its by-laws, shall in
general meetings have an equal vote, to be given in person;
