1866.                       CHAPTER 523.
AN ACT for the benefit of Emily Evans, a free woman of cr)lor.
WHEREAS, George Johnson, a free man of color, of McLean
county, having departed this life intestate, leaving real and
personal estate, and leaving no person at the time of his death
capable of inheriting said estate, but leavin- an only child,
Emily Evans, who was at the time of his death a slave; and
the said decedent having made all necessary arrangements to
purchase her or procure her freedom, but having been mur-
dered before said arrangement was perfected; and the said
Emily being now a free woman, therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth
of Kentucky:
§ 1. That the said Emily Evans be capable of inheriting as
heir at law of the said George Johnson, deceased,.all his
estate, real, personal, and mixed ; and that any right of escheat
which the State of Kentucky may have to said estate is
hereby waived and released in her favor; and that it shall be
lawful for her to take charge of the real estate, and for the
administrators to pay over the personal estate to her; but said
estate shall be first subject to the payment'of the.debts against
the decedent, and the costs, charges, and expenses of admin-
istration; and the said Emily Evans may sue fur a settlement
of said estate, and recover the surplus assets found upon such
settlement in the hands of the administrators.
§ 2. This act to take effect from its passage.

CHAPTER 524.
AN ACT to incorporate the Louisville Dispensary, of Louisville.
Be it ciuat,-l by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth ol
Ketuuky:
1. That \Villiam Garvin, B., F. Avery, William Kendrick,
W   F. Bullock, John P. Morton, John Hainsley, John E.
Crowe, John INI. Delph, B. J. Webb, John M. Robinson,
Samuel D. Tompkins, William JH. Stokes, P. Bannon, L. L.
Warren, Il. W. Sherrill, and Gad Davis, and their associates
and successoxs, be, and they are hereby, made a body-politic
and corporate, by the name and style of the Louisville Dis-
pensary, of Louisville, Kentucky; and shall by that name
have perpetual succession; may contract and be contracted
with, sue and be sued, and acquire and possess property, real
and personal, not exceeding in value twenty-five thousand
dollars, and dispose thereof; and shall have and use a common
seal, and the power to pass by-laws, not repugnant to the
laws of the Commonwealth or of the United States.
§ 2. That the business thereof shall be conducted in the city
of Louisville and county of Jefferson.
§ 3. That the particular business and objects of this dispen-
sary shall be providing and furnishing, free of all charge what-
ever, medicines and medical and surgical aid to such persons
