CHAPTER 678.                             1866.
AN ACT to amend section 2, article 12, chapter 28, Revised Statutes.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Common wealth of
Kentucky :
1. That section 2, article 12, chapter 28, of the Revised  1 Stanton, p.
Statutes, be, and the same is hereby, amended by adding to
the same the following: Any person who shall receive any
rnmoney, property, or other thing so embezzled, fraudulently
converted, or secreted, knowing the same to be so embezzled,
fraudulently converted, or secreted, shall be confined in the
penitentiary not more than five nor less than one year; and
such offeLders may be convicted though the principal offender
has not been.
§ 2. This act shall be given in charge to the grand jury.
§ 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from its pas-

CHAPTER 679.
AN ACT authorizing the refunding of money paid into the State Treasury on
account of the sale of runaway slaves sold since the 1st day of January, 1663,
by order of court.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of
Kentucky:
1. That in all cases where runaway slaves have been sold to  ney paid
by order of court, since the 1st day of January, 1863, and the runaways to be
proceeds of such sale,. after deducting reward to taker-up, refunded.
jailer's fees and costs, have been paid into the Treasury of the
State, the amounts of such proceeds so paid into-the Treasury
shall be refunded to the purchaser who paid the same, or his
heirs or personal representatives, upon making proof before
the court which ordered the sale that he or they did not sell
the said slave prior to the 18th (lay of December, 1865, and
executing a bond to the Commonwealth of Kentucky, with
sufficient surety to be approved by the said court, conditioned
to pay to the owner, his heirs or representatives, the amount  Conditions of
so pa id into the Treasury, and fully to indemnify the State payment.

Proride(t, That no person who has sold any slave after he has
purchased it as a runaway, or put him in as a substitute for
himself into the Federal army, shall be entitled to the benefit
of the provisions of this act: And provided further, That per-
sons who have purchased runaway slaves and executed the
bond required by law, but have not paid the amount, or any
part thereof, into the Treasury, may retain the amount there-
of afLer ddauting rewards, fees, and costs, by executing bond
as herein required, conditioned to indemnify the State against
