1864.    fore he enters on the duties thereof, shall take an oath that
he will discharge the duties faithfully, and to the .best of
his skill and judgment, and give a covenant to the county
in the court thereof, with security, that he will faithfully
collect and account for the taxes, and pay over under
the order of the court. The remedy for breach thereof is
given to the county, and suits upon it may be in the name
of the county of Boyd. The collector shall be subject to
the liabilities of collectors of the county levy, and shall
have the same powers.
§ 5. This act shall take effect from its passage.

CHAPTER 515.
AN ACT empowering the County Court of Mason County to levy and
collect a tax upon the Slaves in said county, to maintain Patrols and
Special Patrol Companies in said County.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly f the (ommonwealth of
Kentuck?:
§ 1. That for the purpose of keeping up and maintaining
the patrols, and special patrol companies, in the county of
Mason, now authorized by law, it shall and may be lawful
for the Mason county court, at any of its tei'ms in the year
1864, and at its regular court of claims in subsequent years,
to levy and collect such poll tax upon all the slaves in said
county as in the discretion of said court may be deemed
sufficient to pay the annual expenses of the patrols afore-
said; and which shall be collected and accounted for in the
same manner as the county levy is annually collected and
accounted for.
§ 2. This act to take effect from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 516.
AN ACT for the benefit of Win. Smith, late Clerk of the Grant County
and Circuit Courts.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth
of Kentucky:
§ 1. That the further time 6f two years, from this date,
be and is hereby granted to William Smith, late clerk of
the Grant county and circuit courts, to list and collect, by
distress, any and all fee bills due him either as clerk of the
Grant county or circuit court: Provided, That the said
Smith shall be subject to all the pains and penalties now
imposed by law upon clerks for issuing and collecting ille-
gal fee bills.
§ 2. This act shall take effect from and after its passage.
