CHAPTER 271.                       1864.
AN ACT incorporating the Washington Cemetery Company, in Ma 18on
County.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of
Kentucky:
§ 1. That Henry W. Wood, George L. Forman, Lucien    Gorporaton
B. Goggin, Peyton J. Key, Thomas Parry, Martin D. Steel, na-,es.
and Alexander Hunter, be and they are hereby created a
body politic and corporate, with perpetual succession,
under the name and style of the Washington Cemetery
Company; and by that name shall be able to sue and be
sued, plead and be impleaded, and they may have and use
a common seal.
§ 2. That said company shall organize by appointing  Ofcersto be

such servants or laborers as may be necessary to do all
such work as they may deem useful and appropriate on
such grounds and premises, as they may have or acquire as
cemetery property.
§ 3. The said company shall have power to dedicate, as  May asquire

known as the Baptist grave-yard, as they may acquire;
and also such other grounds, adjoining or near said grave-
yard, as may be necessary for the purpose of a cemetery;
but they shall not acquire title to more than ten acres of
land. They are hereby authorized, either by gift or pur-
chase, to acquire title, as indicated to ten acres of land.
They may lay off the cemetery grounds, at discretion, into
walks, avenues, lots, &c.; and they may sell the lots, or
otherwise dispose of them, bt only for burial purposes. T
They shall keep a record of their proceedings, and shall & c.
make a plot on their record, of the cemetery lots, walks,
avenues, &c., and shall record the sales of the lots, and
shall give to every purchaser or grantee a certificate of
sale or grant, signed by the president, which shall be a
good conveyance to him or her, for burial purposes, but no
other; and such certificate may be transferrable by writing,
if the written transfer shall be copied on the records of
said company.
