1884.   bills; and during the time aforesaid may distrain therefor,
under the restrictions and subject to all the penalties now
prescribed by law for issuing and collect;rng illegal fee bills.
§ 2. This act shall take effect from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 142.
AN ACT for the benefit of James R. lughes, of Washington County.
Whereas, it is represented that James R. Hughes, of
Washington county, in the fall of 1862, pursued Lyman
Guinip and C. C. Bradshaw, charged with negro stealing
and false swearing, to the State of Indiana, had them ar-
rested, brought to Louisville, indicted in the Jefferson cir-
cuit court, for said offenses, and that they were admitted
to bail in the sum of $1,800 each, deposited said sum in
court, in lieu of bail, were discharged from custody, and
not appearing to answer said indictment, forfeited their
bail, and said money has been paid over into the public
treasury; and furthermore, that said Hughes was at great
trouble and costs in doing the same-therefore,
Be it enacted b, the General Assembly of the Commonwealth
of Kentucky:
§ 1. That the sum of three hundred dollars, (the amount
said Hughes claims to have expended as set out in the pre-
amble hereto,) be and the same is hereby appropriated to
said Hughes to reimburse him for his said trouble and ex-
penses, to be paid by the Treasurer on the warrant of the
'Auditor. drawn in his favor, out of any money not other-
wise appropriated.
§ 2. This act shall take effect from its passage.

CHAPTER 143.
AN ACT for the benefit of Ben Stokes, of Mason County.
Whereas, it is represented to this General Assembly that
Ben Stokes, an old negro slave of the county of Mason,
purchased certain real estate of one William Holliday, sit-
uated in the town of East Maysville, in that county, and
paid for the same with the earnings of his own labor; that
he, for the purpose of securing to himself the enjoyment of
said property, had it conveyed to his wife, Milly Stokes,
whom he had theretofore purchased and procured to be
manumitted; and whereas, the said Milly Stokes has re-
cently departed this life, without legal heirs capable of in-
heriting firom her, whereby the said property has escheated
to the Commonwealth-now therefore,
