CHAPTER 1.
AN ACT to amend an act, entitled An act concerning free negroes, mulat-
toes, and emancipation.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of  1861
Kentucky:
That an act concerning free negroes, mulattoesand eman. I Acts 1=4O,
cipation, approved March 3d, 1800, is so amendcd as to  'bwaors of
stoambo'ts may
permit owners of steamboats to employ free negroes living employfrbon-
out of this State. The said negroes shall not be subject to or this i ttate
the penalties of said act unless they leave said boat for the  Stewardontg
Kentucky shore. Te written permission of the captain permit oftte
or clerk will authorize the steward to leave said boat for tlo ave boat
the Kentucky shore to obtain provisions and stores for said %K.uhorot
boat,                                                 lons and stoos.
