CHAPTER 325.
AN ACT for the benefit of Jefferson Gee and James B. Thomas.
WHEnRAs, It is represented to the present General As-
sembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, that Jefferson
Gee and James B. Thomas, of the county of Monroe, have
several free persofis of color bound to them'by an order of
the Monroe county court until they are twenty-one years
old; the names of such persons as are bound to James B.
Thomas, being John, born in July, 1843; Bird Willis, born
December 25, 1845; Taylor, born May 25, 1847; Sarah
Jane, born May 30, 1851; Rufus, born June 1st, 1855; and
the names of such persons as are bound to Jefferson Gee,
being Alfred M., born 20th May, 1849, and Benjamin, born
30th April, 1852; and whereas, said Thomas and Gee are
the owners of the father of said free persons of color; and
whereas, the said Thomas and Gee desire and intend to re-
move to and locate in the State of Texas, and desire to
take said free persons of color with them to said State of
Texas; therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly oJ the Commonwealth
of Kentucky:
§ 1. That said Thomas and Gee be, and they, are hereby,
permitted to take said free persons of color to said State
of Texas: Provided, That before they shall take said per-
sons out of this State they shall enter into bond with good
and sufficient sureties, payable to the county court of
Monroe county for the use and benefit of said free persons
of color, in the sum of ten thousand dollars, conditioned
that they will return each of said persons to the State of
Kentucky as they severally arrive at the age of twenty-one
years, which bond shall be executed in the Monroe county
court, and the sureties therein shall be approved by said
court, and filed with the clerk of said county court for safe-
keepiig; and if the stipulations of said bond are not com-
plied with, then, and in that event, said free persons of
color, or either or any of them; shall have the right to insti-
tute suit upon said bond, and recover such costs and dam-
ages as they, in the estimation of a jury, may be entitled to
on account of any violation of said bond.
§ 2. That when said Thomas atid Gee shall take said
persons to the State! of Texas, that they may discharge
themselves and their securities from all responsibility grow-
