CHAPTER 642.                       1854.
AN ACT to amend and reduce into one the seveial acts regulating the
town of West Liberty.
§ 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Common-  Mayor and
wealth of Kentucky, That the town of West Liberty, in the eatsappoint-
county of Morgan, shall have a mayor and six trustees,
and that Hiram Dalley be appointed mayor, and that Wil-
liam H. Burns, W. M. Cox, John N. Hazelrigg, William
H. Cartmell, and Jesse Barbour, appointed trustees, be and
they are hereby appointed mayor and trustees for said
town, whose term of office shall commence on the first
Monday in March, 1854, and continue until their successors
are duly elected and qualified; and said trustees shall have  heer poweri
full power and authority to appoint all town officers, pass  nd duties.
all by-laws, and do any and every act necessary for the
proper regulation and good government of the town, which
the trustees of towns are authorized to do under the gen-
eral laws of this commonwealth in relation to towns-af-
ter having first been qualified by the town mayor, or some
other justice of the peace for Morgan county, to well,
truly, faithfully, and impartially perfbrm the duties of trus-
tees, during their continuance in office, to the best of their
ability, faithfully and impartially.
§ 2. The mayor of the town shall be qualified before
some justice of the peace for Morgan county befbre enter-
ing upon the duties of his office, that he will faithfully, im-
partially, and to the best of his ability, perform the duties
of mayor of the town of West Liberty, during his contin-
uance in office. He shall act as chairman of the board of  Jurisdictionof
trustees, and be clothed with all the powers and preroga- the mayor.
tives of other justices of the peace ; and shall be empow-
ered to try all causes growing out of the by-laws or ordi-
nances made or passed by the said board of trustees ; and
that he shall have the jurisdiction, in every respect, and
be entitled to the same fees as other justices of the peace
for Morgan county; and shall qualify in like manner as
other justices of the peace: and his terms of office shall
be for two years. And the said mayor may proceed at
once to try such cases, involving a breach of the by-laws
or ordinances of said town.
§ 3. That said trustees, and their successors in office, Corporate na

sued, plead and be impleaded, in any of the courts of law
or equity in this commonwealth. They shall have power
to pass all necessary by-laws or ordinances, for the peace,

constitution of the United States.
