portation of slaves into this Commonwealth: Provided,   1849.
Said Butler shall, within sixty days from the time of bring-
ing in said slave, make affidavit before some Justice of the
Peace for said county, and deliver the same to the County
Court Clerk of said county, that he did not import said
slaves for merchandise, and that he will not sell said slaves
in this State within five years from the passage of this
act.
SEC. 2. That Addison Carneal, of said county, be and  Carneal.
he is hereby permitted to bring into this State, a man slave
named Overton: Provided, He shall, in sixty days from
the time of bringing in said slave, take the oath required in
the first section of this act, and that he will not sell said
slave, to remain in this State, within five years from the
passage of this act.

CHAPTER 499.
AN ACT for the'benefit of R. P. Dodds, of Fulton county.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth
of Kentucky, That Rufus P. Dodds, of Fulton county, is
hereby permitted to import into this State, a girl slave
named Jenny, aged ten years, without incurring the penalty
of the act of 1833, prohibiting the importation of slaves :
Provided, He shall make oath before some Justice of the
Peace for said county, within sixty days from such impor-
tation, that he did not import said slave for sale; which
oath shall be recorded in the County Court Clerk's office, as
like cases are required by law: And, provided further, That.
said slave shall not be sold, to remain in this'State, within
five years from the passage of this act.

CHAPTER 500.
AN ACT authorizing the County Court of Butler to change the
State Road from Bowlinggreen to Greenville.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth
of Kentucky, That, from and after the passage of this act,
the County Court of Butler county shall have full power to
make such changes in the State road leading from Bow-
linggreen to Greenville, or so much thereof as runs through
said county of Butler, as will locate said road on better and
more advantageous ground: Provided, That any person
over whose land said road shall be opened, shall have the
right to obtain a writ of ad quod damnum, under the pro-
visions of the general law of this State; and the damages
assessed under such writ, shall be levied by the County
