CHAPTER 238.                        1849.
AN ACT for the benefit of John M. Frairn, of Monroe county.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth
of Kentucky, That John M. Fraim, of Monroe county, be
and he is hereby permitted to import into this State, a negro
girl slave named Mary, aged about twelve years: Provided,
He shall, within ten days after said importation, go before
some Justice of the Peace for said county and make oath
that he did not import said slave for merchandise, but for
the use of himself and family, which oath shall be reduced
to writing and lodged with the Clerk of said county for safe
keeping. Provided further, That said Fraim shall not s~ll
said slave in this State for five years from and after the
passage of this act.

CHAPTER 239.
AN ACT for the benefit of Gilson P. Snelling..
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth
of Kentucky, That Gilson P. Snelling, of Bath county, be
and he is hereby authorized to import ' into this State, two
negro boys, one of them twelve years old, named Philip,
and the other ten years old, named Anthony, without incur-
ring the penalties of the act of 1833, prohibiting the im-
portation of slaves: Provided, That he shall, within eighty
days after the passage of this act, go before some Magis-
trate of his county, and make oath, and cause it to be filed
in the Clerk's office of his county, that said slaves were
brought into this State for his own use, and not for mer-
chandise, and that he will not sell the same ih this State
for the term of ten years.

CHAPTER 240.
AN ACT to authorize Hugh W. Mcary to sell a slave in this State,
and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, it is represented, that Harry, a negro man,
sometime since runaway from his master, J. D. Shaw,
who then, and still, resides in the State of Mississippi;
and the said Harry came to Muhlenburg county, in this
State, and is now under the-control of Hugh W. McNary,
of said county, as the agent of said Shaw; and the said
McNary, as agent aforesaid, has an oppQrtunity to sell said
Harry, and procure for him a hbme near his children, who
are owned by said McNary, but who is apprehensive he
cannot do so without the purchaser incurring the penalties
of the law of 1833. Therefore,
