1849.   sale of spirituous liquors within the town of Lagrange, and
one mile therefrom, approved January 29th, 1846, be and
the same is hereby repealed; and any and all laws repeal-
ed by said act be, and the same are hereby revived. That
this act shall take effect from its passage.

CHAPTER 236.
AN ACT for the benefit of James Byles.
WHEREAS, it is represented, that James Byles removed
from the State of Mississippi to the State of Kentucky in
the year 1848, and brought with him ten slaves, (one of
whom has sinc6 died,) and was prevented from complying
with the law of 1833, in relation thereto, from the indispo-
sition and death of his mother. Therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth
of Kentucky, That the further time of sixty days, from and
after the passage of this act, be given to the said James
Byles to comply with the provisions of the act of 1833 in
relation to importing slaves into this State, and such com-
pliance shall operate, in all respects, as if done within the
time prescribed by said law.

CHAPTER 237.
AN ACT for the benefit of James Bartrum.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth
of Kentucky, ThatJames Bartrum be permitted to purchase,
and import into this State, from Wayne county, Virginia,
the following named slaves, viz: Henry and Naomi, his
wife, and their two children, Martha and Henderson, with-
out incurring the penalty prescribed by law: Provided,
He shall, within sixty days after the passage of this act,
go before some Justice of the Peace for Lawrence county
and make oath that he purchased the above named slaves
for his own use, and not as merchandise; and said Bartrum
shall take a copy of said oath from said Justice, and in ten
days thereafter deliver the same to the Clerk of the Law-
rence County Court, to be recorded by said Clerk and pre-
served: And, provided further, That should said Bartrum,
at any time within five years after the passage of this act,
sell or dispose of any of said slaves in the way of trade,
then said Bartrum may be proceeded against in the same
manner as though this act had never passed.
