AN ACT authorizing 3ohn lVoodburn t import a 'slav ihto thli Co,~ioh-
wealth.
Be it enacted by the General Assenibly of the Commonwealth
of Kentucky, That it shall be lawful for John Woodburn, of
the city of Madison and State of Indiana, to import into this
State a certain negro woman slave named Ellen, for the use
and benefit of his daughter, the wife of John M. Price of Car.
roll county, without incurring any of tile penalties of the laws
now in force against the importaion of slaves into ihis Com.
nonwealth: Provided, That the said Price shall not sell said
slave in this State within five years from the passage of this
act.

CHAPTER 18.
AN ACT for the benefit of Elizabeth llowren and children.
S. . Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Com.
monwealth of Kentucky, That upon bill in chancery filed in
the Clarke Circuit Court by Alfred I3owren and Elizabeth his
wife, to which all their children shall be parties, said Court
shall have full power and authority, in the exercise of a sound
and equitable discretion, to decree and perfect a sale and con.
veyance, passing completely all the title of said parties, of tile
real estate devised to said Elizabeth for life, remainder equally
to all her children, by the last will and testament of her father,
John W. Duncan, and particularly described in the sixth sec.
tion of said will; and said Court shall cause the proceeds of
sale to be collected by some responsible, prudent and discreet
persoIn or persons (other than said Bowren and wife,) to be
selected by said Court, and vested by said persons, so selected,
under the discretion and supervision of said Court, in other
lands in the State of Kentucky, the title of which lands, so to
be purchased, shall be vested in said Elizabeth for life, and at
her death to pass equally to all her children, in the same man-
ner the said devise is now vested by said will: Provided, how.
ever, That before 'said sale is decreed, the said Court shall be
satisfied that 'such sale and re-investment of its proceeds would
redound to the permanent interest of said Elizabeth and her
children.
SEC. 2. That said Court, in said suit, shall have full power
and authority to decree and effectuate a settlement with Wil.
liam R. Duncan, the Trustee named in the will, in regard to
the Trusteeship vested in him by the sixteenth section thereof,
and appropriate any funds that may be found in his hands as
Trustee in the same way, and for the same purposes, and under
the same regulations as the proceeds of sale of said lands is
directed hetein to be applied: Provided, That said William
