CHAPTER 83.
AN ACT to allow an additional Constable in Ballard county, and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, It is represented to this General Assembly that
the citizens residing in that part of Ballard county, north of
Humphreys' creek, labor under great inconvenience for the
want of a Constable: for remedy whereof,
SEC. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Com-
monwealth of Kentucky, That an additional Constable be al-  Ballard.
lowed to the county of Ballard, to reside north of Hum-
phreys' creek, and near Esquire Turk.
SEC. 2. That there shall be, and is hereby, allowed one ad-
ditional Justice of the Peace and Constable to the county of
Hardin, and when the County Court of said county shall pro-  Hardin.
ceed to elect said Justice they shall have due regard to the
claims of Elizabethtown, in said county.
SEC. 3. That an additional Constable shall be, and is here-  Carroll.
by, allowed to the county of Carroll, who shall reside in the
third School district in said county.

CHAPTER 85.
AN ACT for the benefit of George 0. Thompson.
WHEREAS, It is represented to this General Assembly, that,
some time in the spring of 1839, a certain negro man named
Sam, then owned by - Wilson, of Trigg county, was con-
victed on the charge of rape, inflicted on the body of a
white woman, and was legally committed to the jail of Chris-
tian county, whilst George 0. Thompson was Jailer of said
county, and, in consequence of the insecure condition of the
prison, and not by the negligence of said Thompson, said fel-
on made his escape: AND, WHEREAS, The said Thompson, at
the instance of many of the citizens of Christian county, of-
fered and paid a reward of one hundred dollars for his apprehen-
sion : therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth
of Kentucky, That the County Court of Christian be, and
they are hereby, authorized and directed to pay to the said
George 0. Thompson, out of the county levy, the sum of one
hundred dollars, with all accruing interest, from the 1st day of
June, 1839, until paid.
