Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, ,That from and after the first day of March next, the board of trustees of the Trustees au- town of Washington, in the county of Mason, shall thorisedtogrant have power and authority to grant licenses to keep tavern licenses. taverns, groceries, coffee-houses, and all such other houses of public entertainment, at which it is proposed to sell liquors of any kind in said town, and make such by-laws and regulations, as they may deem necessary, to prevent the sale of liquors in said town to slaves, and prevent free persons from supplying slaves with 'iotxicating liquors: Provided, That no license to keep a ta,. an or sell liquors, shall be issued by authority of Proviso. said boara'ck trustees, unless the person to wholn the ,same may be hanted, shall produce the receipt of the .clerk of the Ma,,A county court for the amount of money at which -ulicense be fixed and rated by the by-laws or regulationb 'F said board of trustees. Be it further enacted, That any person who Tavern keepers may obtain a license from said board of trustees, shall nay be punish- ed 'or keeping be subject to indictment or presentment, tried and disorierly punished, in the Mason circuit court, for keeping a houses, tippling house, or for permitting unlawful gaming in his or her house, as if this act had not passed. And Jurisdiction o( from and after the first day of March next, the county county courts court of Mason shall not have power to grant license taken away. to any person to keep a tavern within the boundaries of said town of Washington.
