BE it enacted by the General Aisembly of the-Q,1lff1I 'o- Commonwealth of 4entucky, That it shall Le lawfnl t rs to elct for the free white male citizens of the town of Law-trustee°' oiri MOI A4y in renceburg, over the age of twenty one )ears, and the Marih. owners of lots within said town, to meet at the court- house in said town on the first Monday in March, one thousand eight hundred and twenty-nine, and on that day in every year thereafter, and shall elect seven trus- tees for said town, who shall hold their offices for one year, and until their successors are duly elected and qualified: Provided, that no person shall be entitled to Proviso. vote at any of said elections, unless he is an actual cit- izen of said town, and unless he has paid his town tax for the preceding year, if a tax was assessed against him, nor shallany person be voted for as a trustee, un- less he is resident of said town, and has paid his town tax for the preceding year, if one was assessed against him. See. 2. Be it further enacted, That the board oftrus- Mote of eon- tees of said town, for the time being, shall cause at least dre-inc Le * ten days notice ofthe time and place of holding said electwin. elections to be given by advertisement at the court- house door, and at two ofthe most public places in) said town, and they shall appoint two of their own body to preside and conduct such elections; and the persons so appointed and conducting said election, shall cause this act to be read to the citizens a!tending, immediately preeedingeach election; and when all the citizens shall have voted who are entitled to vote and applying therefor, they shall certify under their hands the seven persons voted for who have the highest number of votes, who shall be trustees ofsaid town; but if two or more persons have an equal number of votes, so that neither of them shall have a plurality, the trustees in office, jointly, shall give the casting vote. Sec. 3. Be it further enacted, That the said trustees Clerk to he may appoint a clerk, who shall take charge of the appointed by hooks, records and papers of the board and safely keep trtc. the same; and he shall keep a fair record ofall the by- laws and proceedings of the trustees, and shall publish such of their by-laws and ordinances as they may di- rect.
