Be it enacted by the General .Assembly of the Com-
wbnw'ealth of R'ettucki, That two additional Jsti-
ces of the peace, be and the same are hereby allow- Two addition-

may, in their recommendation of a proper and fit
person for said office, designate.

CeAp. 77.-An act to authorize Narcissa to contract for her
freedom,
-WVIMEL.AS, it is represented, that Austin Hub-
bard, by his last will, devised t4~ whole of his es-
tate to a mulatto girl, slave, named Narcissa, pro-
vided she could obtain -her freedom ; ard whereas,
it is represented that William Elliot and Lucinda
his wife, are the owners of the said Narcissa, and
are willing to contract with her for her freedomo
but cannot without the aid of the legislature ; There-
fore,
Be it enacted bq the t~enernl Assembly of the Corn-
monwealth of Kentucky, That it shall and may be
lawful forthe said William Elliot and Lucinda his
wife, (notwithstanding.the non-age or the said Lu-
cinda,) to make any contract or bargain with said
Narcissa relatiye to her freedom ; and the said
Narcissa is hereby vested with authority to give or
refuse her assent to any contract d bargain relative
to her freedom, and to make the same obligatory
upon her when she may become free, (notwithstand-
ing her slavery.) Provided however, That any
contract or bargain so made, shall be recorded in
the clerks office of the Nelson county court, and
previous to its being recorded, shall be approved of
by the county court of said county, in open court,
whose duty it shall bet to see that the interest of
said Narcissa are properly guarded in such con-
tract or bargain, and the price so contracted to be
paid is reasonable.
Sec. 2. Be it further enacted, That said Narcis-
sa may give any lien on the estate devised to her by
said Hubbard. to secure the sum which she may
