CHAP. i.
On Witproviding for a change of venuc in th-e
ease of Mary, a slave.
Approved, October 39,1820.
WHEREAS it is represented to the present Preamble.
general astembly, that Mary, a female slave, the
property of Green Clay, stands indicted in the
Madison circuit court for murder; and that ow-
ing to an undue prejudice existin.g, as she con-
ceives, in the county of Madison against her, she
cannot have a fair and impartial trial in said
circuif cturt: For remedy whereof,
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General qssem-
bly of the Commoijwealth of kentucky, That at
the next sitting of the Madison circuit court, the
said slave, Maryis hereby authorized and allow.
ed to make her election whether she will be tri-
ed in the Jessahino circuit court or not ; and if
she should not elect'to be tried in the Jessamine
circuit court, the Wadison circuit court shall
proceed t9 ty her in the same manner dis if this
act had nbtypassed.
Sec. 2. Be itfurthei enacted, That if the said ,May choese
slave, Mary, upon her appearance in said court, to be tried in
- pperancein sJeam iine and
shalr elect to be tried in the Jessamine circuit  guationsrei
court, such election shi. thereupon, be entered precting ents re
of record ; and thejudge of the Madison circuit Iectiot.  '

to convey said slave, under a suflicient guard, to
