RESOLVED, By the legislature of the commonwealth
of Kentucky, That his excellency the lieutenant go.
vernor thereof, be and ie is hereby respectfully request-
ed to open a correspondence, with the governors of the
Mates of Ohio and lndiana, respectively, in relation to
fugitive slavcs, who escape from their proprietors in this
state, and conceal themselves, and are concealed, or as-
sited in their concealment by some of the citizens or
those atates ; that he represent to those governors res-
pectively in stroug terms, the amicable disposition of the
citizens of this state, towards the citizens of tiose states
respectively; that it is the wish not less than the inter-
09t ofi our citizens that harmony should prevail between
the states ; that the difficulty experienced by the citi-
zens of this state in reclaiming their fugitive slaves who
may have escaped into those states, owing to the real or
supposed obstructions produced by their citizens, is cal.
culated to excite sensations unfavorable to the friendly
relations which ought to subsist between neighboring
s tates ; and that he request those governors respective-
ly, to recommend to their respective legislatures, the a-
doption of such munici pal regulations in relation to this
interestiu; subject, as may be best calculated to do jus-
tice to all con(erncd, and to promote and inereaso the
amity now exitting between this and those states.
