An act to amend the 13th Section of the 13th Division of the Penal
Code of the State of Gegrgia, soas to increase the penalty for selling
and furnishing intoxicating liquor to slaves, and frecpersons oj'color.
4. SEC. I. The General Assembly do enact, That from and after the
rnpassalge of this act, persons convicted of violating said section of
ndliquorthe Penal Code, shall, for the first offense, pay a fine of not less
.'- io-than fifty dollars, nor more than two hundred dollars, and be subject
to imprisonment in the common Jail of the county, for not less than
10, nor more than thirty days; and for the second ofibuse, shall be
punished according to the existing provision specified in said
section. *

An act to change the eighteenth section of the fjuricenth Division * of the
Penal Code of this State, and for other putposes.
5. Stc. I. The General Assembly of the State of Georgia do enact,
y uv.r ()  That from and after the passage of this act, the 18th section of the
'       14th division of the Penal Code of this State, shall be as follows,
to-wit: any person against whom a special presentment, or true
PDnnd for bill of the indictment has been or may be found, for any offence
not affecting his or her life, may demand a trial at the term  when
the presentment or indictment is found, or at any subsequent term
thereafter; which demand, shall be placed upon the minutes of
the Court; and if such person shall not be tried at the term when
the demand is made, or at the next succeeding term thereafter,
(provided that at both terms there were jurors empaneled and
qualified to try such prisoner,) then he or she shall be absolutely
discharged and acquitted of the offence charged in such presentment
or indictment.
Sic. II. And be it further enacted, That all laws and parts of
laws, and divisions, in conflict with this act, be, and the same are
hereby repealed.
