1. SECTION 1. BC it em-tated by the Senate and( 01ouse
of Representatives of the State qf  Georgia im  General
Assembly met, and it isv hereby enacted by the authority qf
the same, That it shall be the duty of the Justices of therarrCost
to appoillt
Inferior Court for the several counties of this State, or any upersototakt
, 5 Jthe census.

Monday in January, Eighteen Hundred and Ffty-Two, or
within sixty days thereafter, to appoint one or more per-
sons in each county, not to excecd one to each Battalion
district in each county, whoso- duty it slfall be to take a full
and accurate Census or enumeration of all free white por-
sons, and of color, residing therein on the first day of
April, Eighteen Hundred and Fifty-Two.
2. SEc. If. Awd be 'it faither enacd by ithe authority
aforesaid, That it shall be the duty of the person so ap-nmikor ne.
pointed as aforesaid, to keop a book in which shall be romttns.-
corded the names of each head of a 1lunily, together withcontcr.
the number of persons returned by each head of fimily
as blonging to his or her family, distinguishing therein in
separate colims, the free white persons from those of co-
lor, the slaves from citizens ; all Deaf and Dumb and Lu-
natie in a separate column, all white male children between
the age of six and sixteen years in a separate column, and
all white female children between the age of six and fif-
teen in a separate colunih, and it shall be their duty to re-
turn the same to the Clerk of the Superior Court of their
respective counties, certified under their hands and seals,
on or before the first day of October, One Thousand Eight *ro urn.
