Be it enacted by the Senate and House (Y Relprc- sentatives oftihe State of Georgia in General Assembly net. and it is hereby enuacted by the authority the same, That the mu- nicipal government of* the city of Macon shall consist of a Mayor and eight Aldermen, who are hereby constituted a body corporate under the name and style of ,the Mayor and Council ofthe city of Macon, and by that name and style shall have perpetual succession, shall have a conunon seal, and be capable in law and equity to purchase, have, hold, receive, enjoy, possess, and retain to them and their successors, for the use of the city of Macon, any estate or estates, real or personal, of whatsoover kind or nature, with- in the jurisdictional limits of the city of Macon; and shall by'the said name he capable to sue and be sued in any court of law or equity in this State ; and shall succeed to all the rights and liabilities of the present corporation of the city of Macon; and the corporate limits of the city shall be the same as those now established by law. SEC. 2. Bc ilftrther enacted by the authority ajoresaid, That an election shall be held at the Court-house in the city of Macon, on the first Saturday in January in each year, for a Mayor and eight Aldermen, to serve for one year and until their successors are elected and qualified, and the polls of which eleclion shall be opened at nine o'clock in the fore- noon and closed at four o'clock in the afternoon. SEC. 3. Be itfitrther enacted by the (ithority aforesaid, That all male white citizens, qualified to vote for members of the State Legislature, and who shall have paid all taxes legally imposed and demanded by the authorities of the city, and shall have resided six months within the jurisdictional limits of said city, and no other person, shall be qualified to vote at said election for Mayor and Aldermen. And in case any person, otherwise qualified to vote at said election, shall move into the city after the time for giving i his taxes, and whose name shall not appear on the tax book of the preced- ing year, he shall, in ord.er to entitle him to vote, report his name to the Clerk of Council before the opening of the polls in order that he may be enrolled among the tax-paying cit- izens. SEc. 4. The said election shall be helt nuder the superintendence ot'.a Justice of the Peace and two free- holders, orof three freeholders who shall be appointed by the City Council at least five days before the election, and each of the said freeholders, before entering upon his duties, shall take an oath before some Justice of the Peace, that * he will faithfllly and impartially conduct said election, and prevent all illegal voting, to the best of his skill and power.
