handle is hein.slavery/ssactsga0289 and id is 1 raw text is: RESOLUTIONM. and being tuable to supply 'themselves, and as Oeace is the tilne to prepare for war,- and self protection is'the first law of nature, For remedy whereof, be, and it is hereby resolved by the Senate and Iouse of Representatives of the State of Georgia, in General Assembly mct, That his Excellency the Governor, be, and he is hereby authorized to draw his order on the Mili- tary Store-keeper in Milledgeville, to deliver to such persons -s may be appointed by the Justices of the Inferior Court of Rabun county, for fifty stand of arms, by such person giving bond with good security, to be judged of by said Court, made payable to his Excellency the Governor, to keep the same in good order, and to deliver the same to the Keeper of said Arse- nal after the said Cherokee Indians shall be removed from the State. And be it further resolved, That the expense of conveying said arms to the town of Clayton, and conveying them back to Milledgeville, shall be paid for, out of' the county find of Rabun county. The Joint Committee on the State of the Republic, to whom was referred so much of the Governor's Message as relates to his correspondence with the Governor of Maine, which cor- respondence was occasioned by the secret and felonious abduc- tion from the city of Savannah, of a negro slave named Atti- cus, thelproperty of James and Henry Sagurs, by Daniel Phil- brook and Edward Kelleran, citizens of the State of Maine, and fugitives fi-om justice, together with the accompa- nying documents, to wit: the allidavit of Janies Sagurs, one of the owners of said slave; the warrant of the magistrate, and the return of the officer thereon; the consequent demand of the Executive of Georgia upon tiue Executive of Maine, for the delivery of said fugitives to the agent of the State of Georgia, in order that they might 282:
