IN SEN ATE, December 1, 1831.
Whereas, it is represented to the General Assembly, by
the Commissioners of the Brunswick Rail Road Company,
that the improvement of the navigation of. a short branch of
the Alatamaha river, in Glynn county, called Rail-Road
Creek, (which is about one mil; in length,) will be indispen-
sably necessary, so as to admit the passing and repassing of
Steam Boats, Pole-Boats, &c. &c. as preparatory to the
commencement of the work of their Rail-Road, from the
head of said Creek.to the town of Brunswick; and wliereal,
the opening of that superior port, to the middle and western
counties of this State, is deemed of great importance to a
large portion of the people of Georgia, which being the pri-
mary object of the said Rail-Road Company-
And whereas, no Legislative aid having heretofore been
bestowed upon the improvement of the navigation, towards
opening the port of Brunswick, which is represented as be-
ing far superior to any other in Georgia, and at the same
time situated centrally upon the sea-coast of this State.
Be it therefore resolved by the Senate and House of Repre-
sentatives of the State of Georgia in General Assembly inet,
That ten thousand dollars be, and the same is hereby set a-
part as a fund, and to be placed in the bill of the general ap-
propriation; to be vested in the purchase of able bodied ne-
gro men, between eighteen and twenty-lve years of age,
and to be added. to the present number of'public hands em-
ployed upon the roads and rivers; the said negro men to be
purchased within this State, for, and on account of the State,
under the direction and approbation of his Excellency the
Governor, in the same manner as pointed out by the act of
eighteen hundred and twenty-nine, for the purchase of pub-
lic hands for the improvement of the roads and rivers of this,
State.
Be it further resolved, That the aforesaid additional'public
hands, herein directed to be purchased, be placed at, and in
the neighborhood of Brunswidk, for the term of one year,
to open and improve the navigation of Rail-Road Creek,
for the purpose aforesaid, and to cut out A road to the Alata-
maha Swamp.
And be it further resolved, That said hands shall at the ex-
piration of one year, be applied to constructa. road from Fort
Barrington, on the Alatatnaha,,through Bull-Town Swamp,
