AN ACT to prohibit the employment of slaves and free persons of colour in the setting of typcs inl printing offices in this State. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Represenwalives of the State of Georia, in g'nVral aswembl3 met, That no slave or fre person of colour shall be employed in the setting of types in any printing office in this State, and that if any own- er or proprietor of a printing press, or any person having the chargo nud control of a printing press in this State shall use or employ a slave or free person of colour in the setting of types, or shall suffer a slave or fro person of color to be so employed in his office, such owner, proprietor, or person shall forfeit the sum of ten dollars for every slave or free per- son of colour who may be so employed on any day or part of a day, to he sued for and recovered by an action of debt in' the justice's court of the district wherein the offender may reside, by and in the name und to the use of any person who shall prosecute for the same. Sec. 2. And be it further enacted 14t the authorily aforesaid, That when there are several owners or propriotors of such press, the suit hercin authorised shall and may be brought. against any one or more of the owners or proprietors who may he resident in the county wherein such offence may be committed, or ugainst the person having the charge and con- trol of the printing press in the office or house in which the offence may have been committed-and the process shall re- quire the defendant or defendants to ansWer in an action of debt for 6i breach of the provi.-ions of this act.
