Whereas injury sometinics results to slaves and plantations belonging to minors, from the practice of hiring and renting them indiscriminately to the highest bidder: And where- as it may sometimes be desirable to keep such slaves to- gether, and have them worked for the benefit of said min- ors: Be it therejore enacted by the Senate and House of Represen- tatives of the State of Georgia in General Assembly met, andit is hereby enacted by the authority of the sanme, That Guardians may exercise under an order of the inferior court, sitting for ordinary purposes. a sound discretion in hiring slaves un- der their controul, either publicly or privately, as may bc most conducive to the safety and comfort of the slaves, and the permanent interest of the owners. See. 2. And be it fjrther enacted, That in cases in which it may manifestly comport with the safety and comfort of the slaves, and the interests of the minors, the guardians may Ieen them together, and have them employed in such agricultural, or other operations, as said guardians niay deem manifestly expedient, under a like order of said court. Sec. 3. AnI e 'i further cuated, That when it may he mannifestli expedienat guntainti:: cato plantatios, tit any part of them, belonging to inors, to be managed and cultivated for their bene6t ; and when minors may not be possessed of lands foi cultivation, their guardians may ap- ply such portion of their disposable funds as may properly be npplied to that purpose, to the purchase of such reasonable portion of land as may be necessary for the purposes of this -act; or they may, if expedient, rent lands for the same pur- poses, under a like order of said court.
