AN ACT
To authorise the Governor to discharge any Judgment which may be
obtained against Charles Williamson. on account ot taking into his
possession and selling Africans, and to provide for the defence of
said suit.
WuEnEAS, it has been made known to us by the communication of
Iis Excellency, that a suit has been instituted by William Bowen, to
recover from the said Charles Williamson the value of certain Afri-
cans taken into his possession and sold by him a the agent and for
the use and benefit of the state:
Be it therefore enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State
of Georgia in General .Assembly met,and itis hereby enacted by the authority of
the same, That his excellency the Governor, and his successors in
office, be and they are hereby authorised and required to discharge
any judgment which may be obtained against said Charles William-
son, for taking into his possession or selling said Africans, and that
he pay any judgment which may be recovered against him on account
of said Africans, out of the money arising from the sale of the same,
or any other money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That
the state shall have the entire control of the defence of such suit or
suits, and shall be bound for all damages and costs which may accrue
in the defence thereof.           0
