States and the constitution of this state, and such other oath as shall be prescribed by them or a mtajoritN of theni, not inconsistent with the con- stitutions and laws of the land. § 6. And be it further enacted, -That the said Com. inissioiers, or a majority of them, shall have the control of the inhabitants of the said town, liable by the laws of this state to work on roads, for the purpose of opening and keeping open, the streets of said town, and workiig on the same, and on the roads leading to and from the said town for the distance. of one mile.
