1858.      SEC. S. Be it furlher enacted, That said Town Council, in addi-
ouncil to taie tion to the powers and privileges now granted to it by the act to
ordenc,, , which this is an ameadnient, shall have full power and authority to
pass all and any ordinances whatsoever necessary for the police and
good order and government of said town.
II-pkal.       SEc. 9. Be itfarther enacted, That all laws or parts of laws con.
flicting in any manner with the provisions of this law be and tho
same are hereby repealed.

AN ACT to amend the Charter of Incorporation of the Town of Jacksonville
Name.         SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Represen.
tatires o. Iti State of Florida in General Assemnbly convened, That
the corporation of the town of' Jacksonvillo shall hereafter be known
and designated as the City of Jacksonville, and its municipal officers
shall consist of a Mayor, eight Aldermen, a City Marshal, City
o      'lers, how 'Treasurer and Clerk of Council, all of whoin shall be elected by
ci, nted,
the people of said city at the time or times and in the form and man-
nor as tire the officers designated by the Charter of incorporation of
the town of ,acksonville, approved February 10th, 1841.
Sac. 2. Be it further enacted by th/e authority aforesaid, That the
Mayor end A- Mayor, hy and with the advice and consent of a majority of the
m-o Marshal'& Board of Aldermen, shall have the power to remove from office the
lt vacancy.  City Marshal fr waita, in their judgment, may be considered any
serious neglect of duty, and to elect such person as they may deem
competent to diseharge faithfully the dutie of said office from time
to time until the next annual election by the people.
Qujorum.      Sae. 3. Be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That the
Mayor and four Aldermen shall he deemed a quorum for the trans-
action for the transaction of any business.
Limitation of  SiC. 4. Be it furlicr enacted, That for no0 one offence made pun-
puailshment  ishable by the ordinances of' said city shall a fine if more than one
hundred dollars be assessed, no imprisoned for it greater length of
time than thirty days.
ownersj&e, of  SEC. 5. Be it furthr enacted, That it shall be lawful for the
negroes  may
permit them to OWners, Om persons having lawful eintrol of negroes, to permit and
ire their own allow then to hire their own tine, to render labor and service in
time, &c.   said city, subject to such rules and regulations as may be prescribed
by the Mayor and Aldermen of said city, and when any negro shall
be permitted and allowed to hire his or her own time as aforesaid, it
shall be lawful for any person to hire such negro.
