East bank of Suwannee, and running up and down suila river
the half of one mile, thence Easrwardly for one mile, so as to
embrace one section of land, and comprehending tle present
town of' C9.1umbus, and their successors be, and they arc lire
by declared a body politic und corporate, by tie name and style
of the town of Columbus, with all the rights, privilegew, pow.
ers, and authority incident and appertaining to, a body corpo-
rate and politic, or natural persons, and by that name and stylc
way sue and be sued, plead and be inploaded, hold, posses, and
enjoy real estates, personal and mixed property, and transfer
the same and so dispoe of and manage the funds of said town,
as shall he most beneficial to the interests thereof.
Sec.2. Ble fiJhrthcre nuted, That the government of said  novernment
town shall be vested in an Ittendant and five Councilmen to b, shall be vealed.

Sec. 3. Be it furuter cearted, That the town rouncil shall
annually, on tile Illst Monday in January, be elected by thP Elections wher,

election under'this act shall tak place on the second Monday
in April nxt ensuing, under all the ritle%, regulations, and
restrictions in this act prescribed, under the suprrittendance
of John W. C, Loud, David Platt, and George H. Smith, or

Sc 4. Beit further entacted, TIat ile town council shall
have full power and authority to prevent and abate nuisances, Powersof th,.
to guard against the introduction, and propagatiot of infectieu  LowI.OQLW)il.
diseases, and generally to ordain-and enforce such measures
as may be necessary for the protection and preservation of the
tealth of the town ; they may erect all necessary public build.

require ; they may sink wells, erect lnips, dig drains, lay out
baril grounds, and regulate and take careo of' tile same ; they
uhall have power to regu!ate, improve, alter and extend the
streets, lanes, avenues, and public squares, and'to open new
utruetw, and cause encroachments, obstructions, decayed build-
ings, and all ruins, to be removed, they shall have power to eq.
