WHEREAS, Under the Militia law of this Territory, passed and 'pprovod on the 15th January, 1836, the citizens of this Ttrritnrv are permitted to commuto and exempt themselves from the obligation of defending the homes, the firesides, and the lives o the g.od people of Florida, nuinst the savage foe, by the payment of a sum o( money : ANn WHEREAS, It is re- rorted, that sundry persons have availed themselves of this per- milieu, and have paid considerable sums therefor, to the officers entitled or supposed to be entitled, to receive the same : Now, therefore, Be it Resolved by the Governor and Legislative Council of the Territory of Florida, That all such sums of money so paid end received, or that may hereafter bo so paid and received, shall be, and the same is hereby appropriated as a fund for the relief of, ind to be distributed to the poor and orphan children belonging to this Territory, whose parents or fathers have fallen or may fail victims to our enemies in the present murderous war. B3e it further Reusolved, That all Military officers, or other persons who have received, or may hereafter receive any such sum or sums, shall without delay pay over the same without any defaicatioui or commission, to the Treasurer of this Territory, to be held by him for such poor or orphan children, to be distribu. ted for their use in such manner as may he directed by law. And be it also further Resolved, That any officer or other person, who has or may receive any such sum or sums, and shall fail to pay, or cause the same to be paid over to the said Treasurer, as directed in the above Resolution, shall be liable to indictment before the Superior Court, and to fine in double the amount of any such sum or sums of money, which he shall so fail to pay to the said Treasurer. rPassed, February 8th, 1836.
