Ohap. 17--No. 78. An act for the relief of Douglass Duicmett.
WIIEREAS it has been made to appear, to the satislitetion ofa
this house, that Stephen, a slave, belonging to  estte ofPramb
Jiuncan MoRea, deceased, late of Tomoka, in tho county of
Mosquito, has boon convicted of maliciously killing und
wounding the cattle of Douglas Dumniett, or said Tonolta,
and fined by the jury therefor, in the sum of three hundred
dollars, before the Superior Court for the District or Last
Floaida; aud whereas it has boon made to appear to this
House, that the jury assessed and awarded said line, against
the said slave, as being only equal to the damage sustained
by the said Douglass Dummett, by reason of the killing and
wounding of said cattle, and in the belief that said fine, by
lav was to be paid to him; and whereas also the said Doug-
lass Dummett, is without relief but by (he interposition of this
House, to %%hich it has been made satisfactorily to appear,
that he has sustained damages in the promises to the amount
of two hundiod dollars, therefore
Be it enacted by the Governor and Legislative Council of the  Negro dis.
Territory of Florida, That the said slave Stephen, shall bo for charged  on

(ene of the Court thereon, upon the payment by the personal er to D. Duln
representatives or the said Duncan _MoRea, of the said sum of mctt.
two hundred dollars, to thu said Douglass Dumintt, which .ahail
be in full satisfaction of his said damages.

This bill being returned rejected by the Governor, with his reasons
