Ashley county.
r  1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of
Arkansas, That elections for mayor, aldermen and constable of
said town of Ianuburg, shall be hereafter held on the day of the
general election for State otticers, on 1st Monday in October, bi-
ennially.
Seu. 2. Should a vacancy occur in the office of mayor by death
or otherwise, the sheriff of said county of Ashley, shall order an
election, first giving ten days' notice at the court-house door, and
the p~erson elected shall hold till the next general election, and
till his successor is elected and quali6ed.
Si4v. 3. The mayor is authorized to fill all vacancies in the
board of aldermen, and to aplloint a constable, to hold their
offices till the general election.
Si'. 4. The mayor when elected as provided in section 1 shall
be conu nissiMel by the Governor,and shall have the same power
to bring suits againtst persons residing within the corporate limits,
as magistrates: Prowidld, The magistrates of the township may
bring suits as heretofore.
SEc. 5. That all laws or parts of laws in conflict with this act
are repealed.

AN ACT to provide for home defense and against insurrection.
SECwN 1. I& it enaried by the Genieral Assembly of the State of
Arkansas, That tbe military board be and they are hereby re-
quired to ration and subsist such companies of volunteers as
may be authorized to be raised aind mustered into service by the
general commanding the trans-Mississippi department for the
purpose of home defense and to guard against insurrection:
Proridcd. That said comnpanies shall only draw rations when in
actual service andl shall not he entitled to any commutation in
money, when rations are not drawn: And provided further, That
such troops shall consist, of persons over the age of forty-five
years, or not subject to conscription.
SEc. 2. Ie it further enacted, That such subsistence shall be fur-
nished according to the army regulations adopted by the military
board heretofore for the subsistence of the army of the State of
Arkansas, or under such other regulations as may be adopted by
the board for the distribution of such subsistence.
