An act to amend the Common School System in the State of
Arkansas.

SECTION                              S!
1. County courts to have a general su-
pervision over common schools.
2. School commissioners, how to be elec-
ted.

sixteenth sections.

This act to take effect from its pas-
sage.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of
Arkansas, That from and after the passage of this act, the coun-
ty courts of the several counties in this State, shall have a gen-
eral jurisdiction, supervision and control of, and over all mat-
ters pertaining to common schools in their respective counties.
SEC. 2. Be it further enacted, That there shall be elected by
the qualified voters in each Congressional township in this State,
whenever a majority of the housholders residing in said town-
ship may desire to have the sixteenth section in their township
Aold or leased, for the purpose of organizing and establishing
common schools therein, one common school commissioner, who
shall hold his office for the term of two years, and until his suc-
cessor is elected and qualified: Provided, that there be at least
fifteen white children in each township over five and under twen-
ty-one years of age.
