and shall continue until the next general election, and until the
successor thereto shall be elected and qualified.
SEC. 2. That whenever a vacancy shall hereafter occur in the
office.of Sheriff, Clerk, Coroner, or any other office, the election to
which is by the people, and who is commissioned by the Governor,
in any county in this State, the Governor shall fill the same by
appointment, as provided in the first section of this act, except in
cases where such vacancy shall happen nine months previous to
the next general election, in all which cases, the Governor shall,
upon being informed thereof, issue his writ of election to fill such
vacancy as in other cases.
SEc. 3. Be it further enacted, That the qualification ahd duties
of every bfficer, so appointed to fill any such vacancy, shall be
governed in hll respects by existing laws in relation thereto.
SEC. 4. Be itfurther enacted, That the act entitled an act pre-
scribing the mode of filling vacancies in the offices of Sheriff, Clerk,
Coroner, &c., approved 3rd December, 1840, and all other acts,
and parts of. acts inconsistent with this act, be, and the same are
hereby repealed; and that this act shall take effect, and be in force
frorim and after its passage. .

1. Enumerates the objects of Taxation.
2. Fixes the rate.
3. Points out the mode of assessing all
property, subject to taxation, and,
for the purposes of this act, fixes a
minimum valuation upon lands.
