respectfully memorialized to grant to the said Josiah M. Daniel, a
full pardon of the offense wherewith he is.charged. If in the event
Eis Excellcy cannot consistently with his sense of duty, grant a
full pardon, he is theii respectfully requested to issue an order to the
military authorities having him in custody to turn him over the civil
authorities of the State of Alabama, to be tried by the laws of the
State. If a compliance with the preceding clause of this memorial
shall be inconsistnt with the established usages of the government;
it is then respectfully asked that the President will issue an order
allowing the said Daniel to give bail fior his appearance to answer to
the charges which are or may be preferred against him  by any tri-
'1unal having jurisdiction of the same, at such time and place as
may be desig(natcd for his trial, and that said trial may be had in
Alabama, at a point convenient to the witnesses.

of the United StatCs, b), and they are hereby instructed to lay this
memorial and the acODmpaniNlg rsol ut ions, before His Excellency
the Presidu nt of the United States, and to use all honorable and
assiduous nnt:rs to procure a fhvorable cousideration of this menio-
rial and of the accompanying payer.
SEC. 3. lBe it firfh A1resolved, That His Excellency the Govern-
or of Alabama. be, and lie is hereby required to cause three copies
of this preamble and thinse resolutions, properly signed by him, and
duly certified under the great seal of the State, and cause them to be
forwarded to oiri said Senators, one copy each, and one to be laid be-
fore the Prcsid nt of the United States.

Besolved, tih Pro Houses con(crring, That William J. Greene, clerk
of the Committee ('n fredmin; John W. Shepherd, clerk of the
committee on the jidiciary; and Josephfi lHoIgson, clerk of th e com-
mittee on wa\ys aid means, and John A. Grah ai, clerk of the con-
mietee on destltiition and supplies, he payed five dollars per (lay for
their scrvices, to be dIrawn from the treasury as in case of the pay-
ment of iminbers and officers of the general assembly.
