2.: Be it further resolved, That for the, purpose of ascertaining
the appr6priation necessary to be made, the comptioller be instruct-
ed to obtain from , the various-judges of probate :of the State the
respective amounts raised byvthe soveral' counties of the State,
together withi an estinate of the amount, of funds: that will be re-
quired for the'support of, such families dufng the ensuing year; and
report the same to this body atits nextregula ssession.

JOINT RESOLUTIONS:.
In relation to the'iheease :f the irmy of the 6bnfedaratA StatAn.
WHEIAS, the Confederate fGovernment demands the services of
all persous subject to conscription, to fill up the ranks of 'our regi-
ments now in the field, and our State taxed,'to its utmost to furnish
troops for State defense ; and whereas, there are large numbers of
able-bodied men connected with the army of the Confederate States
on service as clerks, agents, &P6., of post or district quartermasters
or commissary, or are otherwise employed than in active military ser-
vice ; and whereas, our aurigh'is bel h greitly reduced on account of
the numberless detjails of soldiers to labor in government workshops
'and other,,places, and upon rlrpads, performing such work as can
be and has usually, been rendered by slaves.
1. Be it resolved b the Senate and )Iouse of Representatives of the
State of Alabama in   General Assembly convened, That in the
opiion of this genethl ass~mbly public sentiment and the 0 igen-
cles of' the country isqiii.r that all able-bodied men inthe service
of the ConfederaOe Statbs as 'elerks, or employed in aiy other capaci-
ty' in any of the 'quartermaster or commigsary departuents of the
government, should be put into.active military service' without 'delay,
arid that their pl4ces should be' filled witli'soldiers or citizens who
are uiiflt for a6tive military service,'   !. .
